our name & official logo
When we were thinking of what to call our organization, we looked at many different options and noticed that existing names for organizations in this kind of space were often very calm and in all honesty, felt like they understated the feelings, urgency and need that the people that were coming to advocate were experiencing.
Most people getting involved in this kind of advocacy, are coming because they see something is wrong that needs to be fixed, usually because it is directly and negatively impacting themselves, people they care about or people they work with/for (physicians/researchers etc.). The feeling these people have is not calm – it’s urgent, frustrating, angering, saddening, overwhelming and heartbreaking. These people want action and change. They want access and guidance. They want to be part of something where they can contribute to fixing the systems that have hurt them and those they care about. They wanted education and guidance as to how they could rise up and learn to advocate for themselves and their community and then be able to go even further and rally with others to collectively advocate on the big issues to make the prominent and much needed changes in the healthcare system as a whole.
We also wanted our name to reflect our mission and what we as an organization were all about which would be to help people take those feelings, desire and vision and turn them into constructive actions by helping them use the power of their voice, story and experiences to turn their pain into purpose and make the healthcare system better for those with chronic, complex and rare conditions.
With all that taken into account, we wanted our name to reflect and honor those feelings of the people that needed the help and wanted to be part of the change as well as represent our mission and what we are all about. That is why we chose the name, “Rise & Rally.”
We believe that if we can help patients rise up in their own care and learn to advocate for themselves and their chronic, complex or rare communities, they can then move into joining other advocates in the fight and rallying others to do the same so we can have a larger impact on changing the system for all those with chronic, complex and rare conditions.
By rising up individually, we can rally together to advocate for improvements in healthcare.
The design of our logo came to be as we thought of what we do most at Rise & Rally: USE OUR VOICES. Because so much of what we do at Rise & Rally revolves around the power of conversation—using our stories, experiences, and voices to highlight problems and create solutions—we chose to incorporate our name into a conversation bubble. This design element underscores our commitment to raising awareness and fostering dialogue around the problems and coming up with solutions.
Our logo intentionally does not indicate what it is about directly, that’s because we want YOU to be able to tell whoever is asking YOUR STORY of why this logo, this organization, this mission matters to YOU. By sharing our logo via wearing our merch or using our products, you can hep spark conversation about these issues and your personal experiences with them in a way that is natural and can really help to create awareness and change.
THE ADVOCATE ARROW
Healthcare needs to change. It needs to get better. It needs reform. These changes are necessary for everyone, but especially for those who rely on these systems the most—those with chronic, complex, and rare conditions, and those who are dedicated to helping them.
We wanted to create a universal symbol use and our members could wear, use and celebrate to honor our collective and individual commitment to help work to achieve this progress and unity. The symbol we created features a medical cross with a big arrow pointing up over it symbolizing our mission to make the healthcare system better. We call it the, “Advocate Arrow”, as it celebrates each category of advocates needed in our fight for healthcare reform for those with chronic, complex and rare conditions.
We identified 7 primary groups of advocates needed in this fight: patients, caregivers, physicians/healthcare workers, medical educators/students, researchers, policymakers and allies. Then 2 more generalized options in the all (general) group and the advocate group for those that would rather align themselves in one of those two groups, fit more than one of those original 7 categories or just preferred those colors.
You are absolutely more than welcome to associate with, share celebrate or purchase merchandise featuring any of the symbols that resonate with you. These categories are simply a way for us to acknowledge and celebrate the various roles and voices that are essential in the fight for better healthcare. No matter what your role is, please know that it is invaluable and so needed. When we use our voices, especially together, we can truly create impactful change!
